Acupuncture

Acupuncture all in conjunction with a healthy lifestyle can be of huge benefit to a person suffering from any type of pain be it chronic or acute.

Acupuncture has been used for centuries, and it works to help alleviate pain, discomfort, illnesses, immune systems and much much more.

Acupuncture is not just a system for inserting very fine needles into specific body locations to alleviate pain. So, what is acupuncture, then? Acupuncture is a complete medical protocol focused on correcting imbalances of energy in the body.

Most Westerners know about its success in treating pain, but Dr. Sheng Li, a UCI Health specialist in acupuncture at the UCI Health Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute, says it’s effective for a wide range of diseases.

The World Health Organization recognizes the effectiveness of acupuncture for more than 60 conditions from high blood pressure to infertility, the common cold to depression, and headaches to irritable bowel syndrome.

Acupuncture is not for a life-threatening emergency,” Li says. “Other than that, it can help lots of conditions.

Acupuncture is not targeting the disease or pathogen. Instead, it adjusts the functions of the human body itself, so the body can heal.

I believe that combining Acupuncture with physio techniques is the best way forward to help patients suffering from chronic pain all be it a chronic sports injury or a chronic disease. One thing to note with and chronic pain or disease, the worst possible situation anyone can do is to do nothing.

Today, we’re witnessing a major shift in how people think about their health and well-being. From fitness and food to mindfulness and self-care, people are finally realizing the true power of prevention and focusing their time and attention on it.

The benefits of acupuncture extend much further, into areas that might even surprise you.

Here are some of the reasons to give acupuncture a try.

  1. Mental well-being.

Acupuncture sessions offer the pause in our day we all need to restore our psyche and hit the refresh button. Acupuncture has been shown to be an effective treatment for anxiety. Results may even be felt after the first session, and with regular treatments, many people even consider it to be a natural alternative to pharmaceuticals. Stress plays a role in almost every disease out there, and regular acupuncture treatments can be a great way to combat the negative effects of chronic stress.

  1. PMS.

Many women have found relief from PMS symptoms through acupuncture. But you don’t have to wait until you’re curled up in a ball in pain or fighting with your partner. Come before PMS symptoms start so you can lessen symptoms beforehand.

2.Weight Los

The inability to achieve a healthy weight can be one of the most stubborn problems patients face, and part of the problem lies in the hypothalamus — the part of the brain that regulates hunger, among other things. Acupuncture can be used to stimulate the hypothalamus, quieting its hunger signals and normalizing appetite. And because acupuncture also relieves stress, it inhibits “stress-eating” and rids the body of fat-storing stress hormones like cortisol.

3. Chemotherapy Side-Effects

Chemotherapy uses drugs to inhibit the growth of cancer cells, a critically important action in fighting cancer. But its side effects — nausea, sore joints, dry mouth, hot flashes and fatigue — are tough on the patient. Acupuncture and electro-acupuncture work to activate chemicals in the brain that block pain. This creates relaxing, pleasurable sensations that can provide much-needed relief for patients undergoing treatment. Patients can also choose acupressure and cold laser acupuncture, which achieve similar results without the use of needles.

4. Text neck and headaches.

Too much screen time can cause your neck to hurt and trigger headaches. Acupuncture can relax tight, overworked muscles and help reduce pain. Acupuncture works with the fascial network of the body to help release your body’s natural opiates.

Acupuncture

Regular acupuncture has been shown to be an effective treatment for chronic insomnia. Acupuncture can relax the mind and body to help you drift off at night. Many people report a great night’s sleep after the very first session.

People who suffer with chronic pain are probably the most frustrated pain sufferers out there because most of the time their pain has been given a name like fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, chronic pain syndrome, chronic fatigue syndrome, headaches, ulcerative colitis and chrones, ibs, to name.

Generally these people are advised that they will have to live with these conditions and the only form of therapy for them is drug therapy.

I have successfully treated people with these conditions in my clinics in Limerick and Charleville, co, Cork, and in most cases they are no longer relying on drug therapy. The Acupuncture style I practice in my clinics is very successful in treating all chronic conditions, the ones I have named previously are just a few that can be treated, many more conditions can be treated successfully also.
